About Us
Anam Cré Pottery Studio opened in 1999.
Our first studio was in the Old Creamery Building on Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo. In 2016 we expanded and moved to our Monterey street location.
Shevon Sullivan chose the name Anam Cre’ from the inspiration she felt while reading John O’Donohue’s book Anam Cara. Translated from the gaelic language Anam is soul and Cre’ clay. Clay forming comes in many shapes. Some with the use of a pottery wheel, others with the hands of the maker forming and sculpting. Those who choose to make this their craft feel the magic while touching the soul of the clay. Shevon has 35 years of experience in sharing this craft with groups and individuals.

Jess
Manager / Ceramics Instructor
Hey there, my name is Jess. I have been doing pottery since 2018, I started in Seattle, WA where I took a beginning wheel class - the rest is history. You could say I was hooked from there. My favorite thing about teaching pottery is watching people fall in love with the craft and seeing their individual skills evolve. It's amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it. I have a background in photography / film. In my spare time, I love hiking, camping & of course, treasure any chance I have to meet a cute puppy. I love animals. I also sell my pottery at local markets and online, working out of my home studio. You can find my work available on Instagram @sticksstones.pottery
Kiara
Ceramics Instructor
Hi, I’m Kiara Bolger—a ceramic artist and instructor here at AnamCre. I’m currently studying Animal Science with a minor in Studio Art at Cal Poly, and I am also working towards getting my masters in Ceramics as well. Clay has been a huge part of my life for years, and teaching others how to work with it is such a passion. Whether you’re brand new to the wheel or looking to push your skills further, I aim to create a encouraging space where you can grow as an artist. If you want to learn how to throw big, I’m your girl (my max is 40lbs!)
Outside the studio, I foster too many hobbies, one of which is writing—I love crafting stories of all kinds, from screenplays to children’s books.
Holly
Ceramics Instructor
Hello! My name is Holly. I’m a Central Coast native and lifelong creative who’s spent most of my life working in my family’s restaurant. That fast-paced world taught me to pay attention to detail, work hard, and move quickly — but I’ve always had a love for art, nature, and hands-on creativity.
A few years ago, my son started attending a local holistic school that required parent participation. I didn’t want to teach academics, so I asked if I could restart their ceramics program, which had been shut down since 2020 — if I first learned pottery myself. They said yes! I took a beginner wheel class at Anam Cre and was instantly hooked.
Since then, I’ve had the joy of teaching ceramics at both the school and here at Anam Cre. I like to keep my classes lighthearted, full of laughter, and adaptable to each student’s pace and style. When I’m not teaching or working at the restaurant, I love spending time outdoors with my son, soaking up sunshine and inspiration.
One of my favorite parts of pottery is watching people surprise themselves — when something clicks and they realize, “Hey, I made that!” It never gets old.
“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t — you’re right.”
Believe in yourself.
Amy
Ceramics Instructor
Amy Loschiavo is a Fine Artist and Ceramicist on the Central Coast of California. She has a bachelor’s degree in Art & Design from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a master’s in Education. Amy fell in love with art as a kid and grew up painting in her free time. Her love for pottery started in college but her skills were developed and honed at Anam Cre! After reaching burn out as an elementary school teacher, she decided to make pottery her career and started her business AL Fine Art & Design. When she is not in the art studio, she is usually spending time with friends and family, or enjoying the great outdoors through hiking, rock climbing, and walks on the beach.
John
Ceramics Instructor
I’m John. I made my first ceramic sculpture over sixty years ago in a fourth-grade classroom. It was a little black skunk that stills sits on my shelf. I was born in the San Joaquin Valley and moved to Pismo Beach after earning a degree in Art Design from UCLA. I taught school in the area before retiring. I started coming to Anam Cré Pottery Studio fifteen years ago. Working with clay is a very relaxing way to spend my time. Sculpting decorative elements to adorn platters, bowls, and garden plaques is my primary interest. It is so rewarding to turn simple lumps of clay into fun and useful works of art. Outside the studio, I enjoy painting watercolors and playing folk music with my friends.
Colson
Clay Recycler & Instructor
Hey, my name is Colson Tubbs. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. Growing up, I loved exploring the beautiful nature surrounding the city, including the Oregon coast and Mt. Hood. The art community heavily fueled my passion for ceramics, allowing me to form connections with other artists and providing inspiration for my work. I was introduced to clay in 2021 when I took my first ceramics class in High School. I immediately fell in love with the intricacies of the process and pushing the boundaries of what I could create with my hands. I believe that clay brings people together, so I love being involved here as a teacher at Anam Cré. I aim to foster an environment where everyone feels welcome and ready to achieve their pottery goals! I’m currently studying Economics at Cal Poly, and in my spare time, I enjoy snowboarding, rock climbing, and camping.
Rod
Sculpture Instructor
I am a Retired Family Physician from Orange County. Took up ceramics in retirement and fell in love with hand-built sculptures. I love sharing what I’ve learned over the years. And especially, I love teaching!
Kailey
Marketing & Communications Consultant
I’m Kailey! I graduated from Cal Poly in 2016 with a bachelors of science in Business Administration, concentration in Marketing, and minor in Environmental Studies. When I’m not playing with clay, I’m trail running, riding my bike, rock climbing, reading classic novels, gardening, or illustrating. I’m fairly new to pottery, but have been enjoying every minute of the learning process. Anam Cré has been such a sanctuary to learn a new craft and I’m so happy to be a part of the studio family.
