ABOUT THE ARTIST
Tom has been working at the Anam Cre Studio for
three years. He primarily works in the "slab"
technique. Each piece he creates starts as a flat,
rolled slab of clay. It is then constructed (rolled,
beaten and cajoled) into the desired shape or
object.
Tom has been working in three conceptual categories
Pieces that are contemporary evolutions of pre-columbian
influences: Colmec, Mayan, and Misissippian. This
work is usually done in red clay and unglazed.
The work ranges from male and female "fertility
effigies" to vessels and jars.
Another area is organic vessels: pitchers, vases,
bowls, etc. These are done in organic, asymmetrical
shapes. The form being more important than the
function.
The third area of interest is his "thorned"
work. Tom has explored a broad range of pieces,
from abstract to functional, that incorporate
a "cactus and Agave" influence.
Tom lives on a ranch in Paso Robles. If you have
